Scorpio season: what it means for your cat or dog

Scorpio season runs from 23 October to 21 November, and in 2026 the Sun moves into Scorpio on 23 October. Scorpio is the zodiac's detective, so for your cat or dog this is a month of investigating: sniffing every bag that comes into the house, watching from quiet corners and keeping a close eye on you.

Every pet gets a dose of Scorpio season, whatever their sign. Scorpio pets, whose birthdays or arrival days fall this month, get the full treatment. Is yours one of them? The sign checker on this page will tell you.

What Scorpio season brings

Scorpio is a fixed water sign ruled by Pluto (and Mars, in traditional astrology). Its season trades summer's bounce for focus and curiosity about what's hidden. In pets, that tends to look like:

• More investigating. Shopping bags, coats, shoes, the back of the wardrobe. Anything that's been somewhere your pet hasn't gets a thorough sniff.
• More watching. The long stare from across the room, the head lifting at every sound outside, the dog who stands still at dusk just listening.
• More closeness with their one person. Scorpio loyalty is intense and specific. Expect to be followed from room to room, and to find someone waiting outside the bathroom door.

Key dates in the Scorpio sky, 2026

• 23 October: the Sun enters Scorpio. Scorpio season begins.
• 24 October – 13 November: Mercury retrograde. Astrologers blame it for mix-ups and lost things, so expect your pet to "lose" a toy under the sofa and stare at you until you find it.
• 26 October: full moon in Taurus, Scorpio's opposite sign. A good evening for a slow night in with your pet, who is likely to want the softest spot on the sofa.
• 9 November: new moon in Scorpio. The most Scorpio day of the season: a nice moment to give your pet a new puzzle toy, a hidden treat to sniff out or a fresh hideout to explore.
• 22 November: the Sun moves into Sagittarius and the mood turns adventurous.

Scorpio cats this month

A Scorpio cat in Scorpio season is the house detective on full duty. Watch for the night patrols (every room, tail up), the eyes peering out from under a chair and the close inspection of your face when you come home. Give them a covered bed with a view, and leave a cupboard door open for them to investigate now and then. Our Scorpio cat guide has the full profile.

Scorpio dogs this month

A Scorpio dog shows the sign through loyalty and alertness: keeping watch from the hallway while you're in another room, dozing with one ear up and giving a visitor's shoes a thorough sniff before saying hello. A scent game in the park, with a toy hidden for them to track down, is the perfect Scorpio season walk. Meet the other signs in the dog zodiac signs guide.

A famous Scorpio dog

Hachikō, the Akita who waited for his owner at Shibuya Station in Tokyo every day for years, was born in mid-November 1923 (his birthday is often celebrated on 10 November), which makes him a Scorpio. There's no better picture of Scorpio loyalty: a bronze statue of him still stands at the station. (Source: Wikipedia)

How to celebrate Scorpio season with your pet

• Hide something. Scorpios love a mystery. Hide a favourite toy or a treat and let your pet find it.
• Give them a hideout. A blanket over a chair, a box on its side, a new den by the window.
• Respect the stare. If your pet is studying you, let them. It's their way of staying close.
• Check their sign. If your pet's birthday or arrival day falls in this month, they're a Scorpio. Find out what that means for them with a free reading, or see how you match on the Scorpio compatibility page.
