Scorpio pets and their owners: who's a cosmic match?

Scorpio pets match most easily with water and earth owners: Cancer, Pisces, Virgo and Capricorn. A Scorpio cat or dog wants loyalty, privacy and a person they can trust completely, and those signs offer it without trying. Every other sign can win a Scorpio over too; it just takes a little longer.

Scorpio pets are born between 23 October and 21 November, ruled by Pluto (Mars in traditional astrology). They're the watchers of the zodiac: a Scorpio dog keeps watch from the hallway, a Scorpio cat from a dark corner, and both notice everything you do.

Water owners: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

Cancer owner (easy): you want home to feel safe, and a Scorpio pet appoints themselves its guard. A Scorpio dog checks every room after the front door shuts for the night; a Scorpio cat takes up a post at the foot of your bed, facing out.

Scorpio owner (twins): you know the long, silent stare, because you do it too. You'll catch each other at it across the room, and neither of you will look away first.

Pisces owner (easy): you drift, and a Scorpio pet keeps watch while you do. Fall asleep on the sofa and you'll wake to a Scorpio cat on the armrest, studying you, or a Scorpio dog lying across your feet so you can't leave without them noticing.

Earth owners: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn

Taurus owner (opposites): two fixed signs, both stubborn, both loyal to the end. Expect a standoff over the bedroom door (open, says the Scorpio; shut, says you) and one of the strongest bonds in the zodiac once it's settled.

Virgo owner (balancing): you notice small details, and so does a Scorpio. You both clock the new bag by the door before anyone mentions it; the Scorpio just gets there first, nose first.

Capricorn owner (balancing): you do the same things at the same time, and a Scorpio trusts that. A Scorpio dog waits in the same spot each evening for your key in the lock; a Scorpio cat appears at the same doorway at the same hour, as if summoned.

Fire owners: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

Aries owner (odd couple): you charge in; a Scorpio watches first. A Scorpio dog sniffs your shoes thoroughly after every rush out of the door, piecing together where you went in such a hurry. In traditional astrology both signs share Mars, and the respect runs both ways.

Leo owner (tricky): you want to be seen; a Scorpio wants to watch. You'll be telling a story to a room full of guests while your Scorpio studies every one of them from under the table.

Sagittarius owner (odd couple): you love new places and new people, and a Scorpio prefers the familiar. Come home from a trip and a Scorpio dog will sniff every inch of the suitcase, or a Scorpio cat will climb in and refuse to get out.

Air owners: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius

Gemini owner (odd couple): you bring chatter and visitors, and a private Scorpio can find that a lot. Give them a hideout with a view of the room and they'll watch every guest with great interest, and judge quietly.

Libra owner (odd couple): your warmth wins a Scorpio over slowly. The first month they watch you from the doorway; by the third they're sleeping in the warm spot you leave when you get up.

Aquarius owner (tricky): two fixed signs, each independent in their own way. You don't ask where they've been, and a Scorpio cat doesn't ask why you're up at 2 a.m.; it's a pact.

Scorpio pets with other pets

A Scorpio pet accepts a housemate slowly, usually after a long period of watching from a distance. Calm, predictable animals win them over best. Give a Scorpio their own hiding spot and they'll decide, in their own time, whether the newcomer can stay.

Scorpio dogs and Scorpio cats as partners

A Scorpio dog shows loyalty by following you to every room and sleeping across your doorway. A Scorpio cat shows it by watching you from the shadows and sniffing your face when you come home to find out where you've been. Both choose their person for life.
