Sagittarius season: adventure time for your cat or dog

Sagittarius season runs from 22 November to 21 December, and in 2026 the Sun moves into Sagittarius on 22 November. Sagittarius is the zodiac's explorer, so for your cat or dog this is a month of wanting more: the long way round on a walk, the open door, the new box, the visitor they haven't met yet.

After Scorpio's watchful, private month, the mood turns outward. Every pet catches a little of it, whatever their sign, and Sagittarius pets, born or brought home this month, get the full dose. Not sure which your pet is? The sign checker on this page will tell you.

What Sagittarius season brings

Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign ruled by Jupiter, the planet of more. Its season swaps focus for curiosity, and staying in for going out. In pets, that tends to look like:

• More exploring. The door left ajar, the gap behind the wardrobe, the turning on the walk you never take. A Sagittarius month is a month of having a look.
• More bounce. The sideways spring when the lead comes out, the gallop down the hall after dinner, the leap for a shelf that seemed out of reach yesterday.
• More hellos. New people, new dogs in the park, the delivery driver who's suddenly a friend. Sagittarius is the sign that talks to strangers.

Key dates in the Sagittarius sky, 2026

• 22 November: the Sun enters Sagittarius. Sagittarius season begins.
• 24 November: full moon in Gemini, Sagittarius' opposite sign. A lively evening: expect a pet who wants to chat, play and investigate everything at once.
• 6 December: Mercury enters Sagittarius. Astrologers link Mercury with messages, so watch for a pet with more to say: a dog bringing you the lead, a cat chirping at the window.
• 9 December: new moon in Sagittarius. The most Sagittarius day of the season, and a good one to try something new together: a walk somewhere you've never been, or a fresh cardboard box to conquer.
• 21 December: the Sun reaches Capricorn on the winter solstice, and the mood turns to cosy routine. Pets born on 21 December still count as Sagittarians on the standard sign dates.

No planet turns retrograde this season: Mercury and Venus both turned direct in mid-November, before it starts.

Sagittarius dogs this month

A Sagittarius dog in Sagittarius season wants the walk to go on forever. Watch for the hopeful pause at every side path, the scout run ahead and back, and a tail that wags at every stranger on the way. A new route, even a short one, is the best present you can give them. Sagittarius cats this month

A Sagittarius cat in Sagittarius season is the house explorer on overtime. Expect doors tested, bags climbed into and shelves reached that you thought were safe. Short, lively games and a new box to explore keep them busy. Read the Sagittarius cat guide to meet them properly.

A famous Sagittarius dog

Rex, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who lived at the White House with Ronald and Nancy Reagan, was born on 16 December 1984, which makes him a Sagittarius. He had a doghouse built for him by the Washington Children's Museum, and he reportedly refused to go into the Lincoln Bedroom, barking through the doorway instead: a dog who had firm opinions about where he'd go. How to celebrate Sagittarius season with your pet

• Go somewhere new. A different park, a new street, your usual walk done backwards. For a cat, a box or a bag they haven't explored yet.
• Say yes to the detour. If your dog wants to see what's down that path, and you've got five minutes, go and see.
• Open a door. Let a Sagittarius cat into the room that's usually shut, just for an afternoon of investigating.
• Check their sign. If your pet's birthday or arrival day falls this month, they're a Sagittarius. Get their free reading, or see how you match on the Sagittarius compatibility page.
